Question of the Week: What does the Bible mean when it calls Jesus “The Last Adam?”
Verses: Romans 5:12-21
The First Adam is literally Adam. The first man whose actions affected all of mankind’s relationship with God in a negative way.
The Last Adam is Jesus. The man whose actions affected all of mankind’s relationship with God in a positive way.
This system may at first seem unfair, since the actions of one man could condemn us all. However, upon hindsight Paul points out that it was the only system that could save us all at once through one act. If one man’s actions could condemn us, then one man’s actions could also redeem us. God wasn’t setting us up to fail. He put a system in place that was the only way that could potentially see us all succeed.
