Culture responds to trauma through shame or glorification. Neither are productive because they both prevent us from challenging ourselves to properly process and move on from pain rather than establish it as our identity.
1. A victim that is shamed for their trauma hides it rather than copes with it
2. A victim that is celebrated for their trauma embraces it rather than moves on from it
