Question of the Week: Why should Christians care about biblical prophecy?
Verses: Matthew 24:36, Isaiah 14:24

A prophetic eye is an eye on the sky. Every single Christian who invests themselves in understanding and celebrating biblical prophecy will know the following three truths.
1. What God’s promises are. This is not just limited to salvation. Knowing even the promises we wish weren’t the case will make sure we’re not caught off guard when life gets rocky.
2. What promises God has kept. If God has kept promises before, we have that many more reasons to trust He’ll keep the ones we haven’t yet seen fulfilled.
3. What promises God has yet to keep. Knowing what we have to look forward to will make even the most difficult journey worthwhile because you know the destination will be worth the grief it took to get there.

Question of the Week: Why are Atheists so against the idea of a global flood?
Verses: 2 Peter 3:3-7

The most common rejections of Christianity are based on assumptions rather than conclusions. When a person is told about any event in history, they have no problem acknowledging it based on fragmentary evidence that came from individuals who weren’t even there. The Life of Alexander the Great was first recorded by Plutarch centuries after his lifetime, and the only reason we know he wrote about it was because of pieces of evidence that he wrote over 400 years after Alexander’s death. Since the archeology lines up with later copies, they will teach it in schools. However, you bring up even a passing mention of what the Bible talks about in history and all of these standards go out the window. Whether it’s Jonah and the Fish, Noah’s Flood, or the Tower of Babel, it couldn’t have happened because we only have pieces of archeology that confirm things written by people who weren’t there like Moses centuries after the fact. Why the double standard? Not because there isn’t evidence, but the assumption there can’t be a God. The problem isn’t knowing whether or not the Bible is history. Very few lives are given to Christ after multiple attestation is given to verify whether Moses was a historical figure or not. The assumption is that this life is all there is, and if there is a God, then those who reject Christianity have a lot to answer for to the God whose standards they’ve violated. Until the heart changes, the evidence will always be turned down. That’s the real issue that needs to be confronted.

Question of the Week: How should Christians view suicide?
Verses: 1 John 3:15, James 4:7-8

The topic of suicide is not an easy one to discuss. There are people on both ends who either have loved ones who have committed suicide and are looking for hope, or are struggling in life and considering it for themselves. Whichever position you or the person you are talking to finds themselves in, the last thing we should do is to go beyond scripture. It is not the unforgivable sin, and therefore shouldn’t be assumed a one-way ticket to Hell. Likewise, it isn’t something any Christian should do because it is by definition self-murder. The struggle with suicide is a spiritual battle, and the solution to any spiritual battle is bringing our Savior into it. If you or someone you love is struggling with thoughts of suicide, don’t overwhelm them with reasons why they should avoid what they want to do. Focus on and pursue Jesus, who can give us something worth living for even when we felt there are none left.

A Reason for Hope Question of the Week, May 11th, 2018

Question of the Week: Who created God?
The person who asks the question, “Who created God” first needs to understand what God is. God is the being outside of time and space who has always existed and is the source of life and meaning. With that clarified, who then created God? No one. God by definition isn’t created, and therefore didn’t have a Creator. The reason people ask this question is because everything they observe in God’s creation had a beginning, and then assume the Creator has to follow the same rules. The Laws of Thermodynamics demonstrate that everything that began to exist needed a cause. Since the Universe began to exist, the Universe needed a cause. This cause would need to be what we define as God. Timeless (Since He existed before time began), Spaceless (Since He existed before space was formed), Personal (Since He consciously chose to make this Universe), and Powerful (Capable of causing an effect as massive as the Universe). Instead of science disproving the need of a Creator, the scientific laws of this universe demonstrate our need for Him.

A Reason for Hope Question of the Week, May 4th, 2018

Question of the Week: Is Shyness a form of Pride?
Pride is a sin committed in our attitudes and our worldview. It is an unrealistic and dishonest view of yourself. Lucifer was the greatest example of pride in action. He was an exalted Cherub. One of the highest beings in God’s creation. Yet in spite of this, his eyes went off of God and onto himself. He became unrealistic in thinking he was greater than he was and dishonest in his claim to be higher in status and honor than God. Shyness is neither dishonest or unrealistic. It simply is a description of how some people are more cautious in forming relationships than others. It isn’t sinful, let alone proud.
