A Reason for Hope Question of the Week, March 16th, 2018

Question of the Week: Why did God create Hell?
Verses: Matthew 25:41

Hell is an eternal existence without God. What makes it torture is because every good and perfect gift that comes from God won’t go with you. This kind of existence wasn’t created for mankind. When Lucifer rebelled against God, his desire was to be separate from the True and Living God and be his own god. The practice of his free will as well as the desire of his followers was respected by God and so their wishes were granted. This existence apart from God is reserved for the devil and his followers who share in his desire to be separate from God. This applies to humans who reject a personal relationship with God as well as angels. However, this is not an existence you want.

Question of the Week: What is spiritual covering?
Verses: Ephesians 5:23

Spiritual covering is a term used to describe a role of authority. In a biblical sense, it’s referring to the role God has to be our protector, provider, and guide through our Christian lives through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, certain groups have taken this principal and twisted it into a different meaning altogether. Cult groups like Shepherding movements will use these terms to claim the Holy Spirit is acting through them as His earthly agent in the lives of believers. The church leaders then demand full authority over a person and every decision they are allowed to make in their lives. This is false. God is the head of the church, not an individual. If you have the opportunity to put your total trust in someone, don’t settle for less than God’s best. Put your faith in God, not in a person who is twisting the scripture for their own self-promotion.

Question of the Week: What political issues should all Bible-believing Christians agree on?
Verses: Genesis 12:1-3, Psalm 139:13-16

Salvation isn’t a political issue. Anyone who puts their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will be saved no matter who they vote for. However, voting should always be done with an open Bible. There are a number of issues that can be negotiated and shouldn’t be considered issues of conflict between Christians. However, if someone believes the Bible is true, there are two realities they are accepting that should make a direct impact on who they identify with politically. Firstly, being pro-Israel is a non-negotiable. God promised to bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse them. Regardless of your view towards the Jewish people, no one who calls themselves Christian should ever call themselves anti-Semitic at the same time. Likewise, another issue that can’t be negotiated biblically or even scientifically is the matter of abortion. God’s word has made it clear that life begins at conception and the taking of that child’s life should never be something a Christian advocates. You can be uninformed on these matters and give the Holy Spirit room to teach you more about what’s really going on, but these are the issues you cannot compromise if you call yourself Christian.

A Reason for Hope Question of the Week, February 23rd, 2018

Question of the Week: Are all religions equally valid ways to God?
Verses: John 14:6

Ravi Zacharias said in his book, Jesus Amoung Other Gods, ““All religions are not the same. All religions do not point to God. All religions do not say that all religions are the same. At the heart of every religion is an uncompromising commitment to a particular way of defining who God is or is not and accordingly, of defining life’s purpose.” Every single belief system without exception makes claims that contradict all others. People subscribe to each belief for varying reasons. Some do so for cultural reasons. Others hold their beliefs for the sake of their families. Christianity stands alone as the only belief whose founder not only claimed to be God Himself, but proved it through a historically verifiable resurrection from the dead. Eternity is too long a time to gamble with. Know what you believe and why, as well as why you don’t believe the alternatives. The truth is exclusive by definition and is too important to leave to guesswork when eternity is at stake.

Question of the Week: What does the Bible say about Gun Control?
Verses: Jeremiah 17:9-10, James 4:1-2

Whenever things go wrong in this world, it’s natural to seek a solution. However, the problem never gets solved if its source is never addressed. When things like public shootings take place, the media’s first response is to make it illegal to obtain firearms to prevent these sort of things from happening again. The problem is that this is treating a symptom rather than the disease. Cain would have still murdered Abel even if God had never invented rocks. The issue that needs to be confronted are the hearts of those who are wielding weapons for those purposes. Until that changes, nothing else wrong with this world will. Want to end Gun violence? Start by sharing the gospel. Someone who has given their hearts and lives to Christ won’t even think of using a firearm to gun down innocent children.
